The Dangers of HFCS

I commend the Mayor of New York this week in his attempt to ban Super-Sized drinks and sugary soda within his city's limits!  Not only is Mayor Bloomberg making a statement to the rest of the country that we must all help in the battle of obesity, but he is also acknowledging that these types of drinks, all of which contain HFCS or High Fructose Corn Syrup are one of the major contributors of obesity today. Another Public Health victory this week involves the FDA's denial of the Corn Refiners Association request to rename HFCD to " Corn Sugar " so that when the public reads product labels it wouldn't be as easily identifiable. Women and Thyroid Cancer: A Growing Concern

This past week Dr. Oz had a show on the fastest growing cancer in women, thyroid cancer. It was a very interesting program and  he mentioned  that the increase could possibly be related to the use of dental x-rays and mammograms. He demonstrated that on the apron the dentist puts on you for your dental x-rays there is a little flap that can be lifted up and wrapped around  your neck. Many dentists don't bother to use it. Also, there is something called a "thyroid guard" for use during mammograms.   A friend of mine who had also viewed the show mentioned that she had just had her yearly mammogram. Although she felt a little silly, she asked about the guard and sure enough, the technician had one in a drawer. She asked why it wasn't routinely used. Most of us are familiar with the fact that proteins help build and repair muscles after they are broken down after an intense workout and are necessary for strong bones, skin, hair, and blood.  What many do not know, is that proteins are also essential to the capacity in which your brain functions. What’s up with People who eat Raw Foods?  What’s the scoop on the Raw Food Diet? If you are a novice to the raw food diet, here are some tidbits of information to help you get acclimated. Raw means unprocessed or uncooked. Rawism or the practice of eating uncooked or unprocessed food it the most healthy way of eating simply because the food is in it’s natural state. Cooking vegetables will deplete it of the nutrients that our bodies need the most. By eating in this manner you are going to be in optimal health. Eating a raw food diet will cause a leaner body, a clearer complexion, more energy and a reduced disease state, and weight loss.  Overall people who practice rawism look different, for they do not experience the normal signs of aging as quickly and you may also notice youthfulness within the eyes. REVIEW: FELA THE MUSICAL

FELA "THE MUSICAL" If I could describe it in just word,  I couldn't!  It is everything you would expect from the producers Will and Jada Pinkett, Jay Z and the Hendels .  If you know anything about FELA, or if you know nothing, you will leave this production enlightened! For it is a fully aesthetic learning experience Electrifying!  And the best thing is the fact that is interactive, which kept the audience fully engaged.  You will Dance, you will sing, you will clap, you will repeat sayings in Swahili,  You will be fully immersed in the Nigerian Culture, if only for an evening!  The Shrine will never forever take it's place in history.  Oh, did I mention the Dancers?   You have to give it up for Choreographer Bill T. Are You Going to Quit Smoking for 2012?

As a former smoker for many years, I know how difficult it is to finally kick the habit for good!  So please don't use the excuse of "I Can't Quit".  What worked for me which is something that may not necessarily work for everyone was to do it "cold turkey". To continue to smoke at all only seemed to spiral me back into the same pattern of smoking the same number of cigarettes that I swore to stop smoking to begin with.  Recent studies show that most ex-smokers have also chosen this method of quitting as well. How do you know that you are ready to quit?  Well, first you have to always listen to that inner voice.  If it's telling you that you need to quit, then you should listen.  When I was smoking, I got to a point where every time I would smoke a cigarette my conscious would say to me " You Know You're Killing Yourself Right?" Also, if you feel that you are smoking more and enjoying it less, you are definitely ready to quit..  Finally,
